• Check data-transfer egress costs for your workload; DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, and AWS all charge overage rates that could add $50-500/mo if you have high egress.
• Verify HA/replication requirements; most cheaper alternatives are single-node by default; Heroku Shield includes HA, so compare 3-node Linode or OVHcloud HA pricing if redundancy is mandatory.
• Test connection pooling and max-connections limits on the target platform; Heroku's 40k connection limit is high, but cheaper tiers may have lower limits that affect your application architecture.
