Is Heroku's Basic-0 the best deal?

Before you switch

• Heroku Kafka is a message queue; most alternatives listed are databases or caches. Verify whether you actually need Kafka's pub/sub semantics or if a simpler database/cache fits your use case.
• Heroku's $100/mo plan includes only 64 kb/s produce and 256 kb/s consume throughput. Check if alternatives' throughput limits (often undocumented) meet your peak load.
• Render, Scaleway, and Azure all charge storage and egress separately; factor in $0.01-0.30/GB/month for storage overages and $0.01-0.15/GB for bandwidth beyond free tiers.
• Render and Scaleway have lower SLAs (99.95% and 99.9% respectively) than Heroku's implicit standard; confirm if that matters for your workload.
• If you are locked into Heroku's ecosystem (Dynos, add-ons, Private Spaces), migration costs and operational friction may offset the sticker-price savings; evaluate total cost of ownership including replatforming effort.
